KIDPIX digital fine art studio

Through empirical cognition creative activities help in the development of a harmonic self, which is a basic goal in the life of all children.
Young people learn and form their relationship to the sensual reality through creation. The best context of creation can be ensured by the art scene, as arts form subtly the relation of the child to reality and make them open to new, quality, abstract correlations.

As a great change in traditional children education, today’s digital visual, audio etc. recording and creating tools can also be incorporated in the creative process. The main question relates to the new system of relations brought by digital technology in the quality of the creative art process and human interaction in general. It is important to clarify such misunderstandings in the minds of children as real world-fictional world, TV/movie role situations and their sufficient use in everyday life. Educational sessions started in time and carried out continuously can resolve these problems and help the fluent visual and verbal communication.

The main goal of the programs of the studio is the revelation, analysis and integration of these changes into the process of art intuition and thinking. An additional goal of the program is to contribute to the understanding of the mediatized world already in childhood.
The studio dissolves the distress related to the new (information society and economy, commercial media, advertisements, violence on TV, chat etc.), taking advantage of the extraordinary apprehensive and learning abilities of children in the understanding of the media environment. The experience can evidently be put into use in the future as children are equipped to enter the world of the seemingly mystical but continuously present and thus eventually habitual TV programs, commercials etc. through projects constructed by themselves, arriving invisibly to a deeper, creative process from the superficial structures.

The program clarifies phenomena and notions as real-time activity, interaction, virtual space, lack of substance, sequence, sample etc. in a playful manner understandable for children as well.

This peculiar method of exploration of the correlations of the civilizational changes caused by the development of digital technology and arts and culture as the finest map of the contemporary status of human civilization is a pioneer initiative in Hungary.

2. Method
Music, movement, film and video are associated with the visual activity already on the communicational level. Therefore the program applies the tools of art and visuality. It educates and provides a community experience, which is supplemented with a relation to a virtual community (web). The games encourage interactivity.
During the program stress is put on the cooperative creative work, talent can be found in the uniqueness of the creative process instead of the actual works created. As opposed to the end result, the activity itself, meaning the dissolution in the artful interactivity and the experience of creation.
With the help of the methods of KIDPIX, children will be enabled to put the experience of the studio work into use in their own lives as well.

The success of the method is shown by the fact that the rehabilitation of children with disadvantages or disabilities is often included in the work of the studio.

3. Detailed introduction to the method
1., The moderators create a specific fictional situation: a special visual/tool using problem is raised to generate the creative process.
2., Identification of the problem, task. Presentation of the limits of the traditional art tools and methods of expression (paint, crayon etc.). Finding the solution together with the help of the new tools. Specification of the problem with the knowledge gained through the process. Creation of new solution models.
3., In the solution process the children create individual works with the help of the moderators. It is important to keep the balance between the technology and the tools and skills of the children as well as the traditional instruments of art. Both the group and individual tasks suit the constitution and attitude of the children:
      1. basic self expressive instruments: drawing, painting, sound, dancing
      2. the child digitalizes his primer creation; places it into a different medium (visual and audio recording, making copies)
      3. afterlife of the art work (exhibition, projection, movie, poster, developable web site, webcast etc.)
The first two processes often get interchanged: the visual information, sound samples and other data derived from the internet, digital recordings, movie samples etc. become the foundation of a manual art work. They become the initiative and the inspiration for the paintings, statues, installations.
The resulting art work can be projected pictures, video installations, video films, text and picture e-mails, printed pictures, sound material (digital sound effects, sound samples mixed with pictures etc.) as well as paintings, drawings, montages, collages, written texts, music etc. as an analog treatment of the digital material.

4. Method and technique of the preparation to a KIDPIX program
The leaders of KIDPIX hold a short training for the employees of Accenture either previously or on the spot to present the work of the studio and the basic rules of the method. The employees get an insight into the work of the art pedagogues of KIDPIX through a presentation and a practical workshop and develop the exact program of the afternoon pro-actively in cooperation with the KIDPIX teachers. Subjects of the training: cooperative learning techniques, non-directive helping relationships, personality-focused approach, dramatized games, technical details of the nature of the digital instruments.

5. The program of the Accenture day
The presentations as well as the subsequent lunch will be held in Millenáris.
In the afternoon the employees will participate in the KIDPIX afternoon in the House of Future, putting their knowledge and skills used in their everyday work into a new dimension.
During the program the children learn the use of the tools and receive the guidance of the employees, receiving answers to their questions right on the spot from them. The workshop provides the most effective form of learning: the little steps can be absorbed by the kids, they get immediate results and exclude the necessity of long verbal explanations.
The volunteers of Accenture provide tailor-made assistance to the children. The cooperative skills and attention of the children develop through the personal relationship. The behavior of the employees will set an example for them. The non-directive helping relation built by the employees will have a positive effect on the self-assessment and the personal development of the children.
All participants will experience the joy and liberating force of creative work, while the employees put their existing skills to an unconventional test, moreover, discovering the unique experience of a beneficial activity as well.

6. Afterlife of the program
The created art works can be organized into an exhibit or an auction either as an employee or a client oriented company event.
The documents and the works can further be developed with the assistance of young professional artists. These indirect photos, paintings, videos can also be exhibited.

Possible cooperation in the future: continuous support of the scientific art educational program of KIDPIX in the House of Future (currently 6 hours per week) in 2007. The multimedia sessions are designed for young people of grade schools and high schools, with a special focus on groups of disadvantaged children.
